"Out of Asia" or… my year in China

Last Monday – our first successful take-out order!

Success!

Not saying it did not take a few tries…but the motor scooter man made it to my front door in CHINA! It started with a phone call to the equivalent of a 1-800 number – “press 2 for English” – which gets you an operator in Shanghai who will then reroute your order.

Well…this did not go well the first time around as they could not find our address on their map and when I called back  – we thought they may have blocked my number. So our buddy Drew called from his phone and would not let go…”TIAN BAO JIN HAI AN!!!!!!!!!” “TIAN BAO JIN HAI AN!!!!!!!!!” “TIAN BAO JIN HAI AN!!!!!!!!!” …”Just transfer us to the McDonald’s in TEDA — everyone knows this area” …so giving our real address about 4 times – which is not a street number but again a name that describes a set of buildings – the old “TIAN BAO JIN HAI AN!!!!!!!!!” and watching out our 10th floor lobby window for the scooter with a wave in from the patio got us warm delicious Mickey Dee’s!!! According to the other teachers we were the first successful non-Chinese take-out orderers!
